Rie Compton LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music)
I have been teaching piano for over two decades and, until recently, taught children from around the world at a British international school in Brussels. This experience has reinforced my belief that everyone is musical and can learn to play well with the right guidance, thoughtful practice and encouragement. When students discover music they genuinely enjoy, their motivation and progress can be remarkable.
I also have experience teaching students with learning difficulties, autism, dyslexia and ADHD, adapting my approach to suit each person’s individual learning style and needs.
I hold the LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music), a degree-level performance diploma, and teach students of all levels, from complete beginners through to advanced players. It is always a joy to help students develop their confidence and play music they love, whether purely for pleasure or in preparation for exams.

I’m a classical pianist by training, however I enjoy exploring different genres and styles of music.

Rie has been so brilliant with my 7 year old daughter Ivy. She has been having lessons for a year now and has come on so much. Ivy struggles to focus at times but Rie always manages to get her back on task sensitively whilst entertaining Ivy’s many questions! I couldn’t recommend Rie more highly!

Learning music and to play piano with Rie is joyful. Rie perfectly structures her lessons to match the progress and interests of her student and she provides excellent supplemental material for practice. Highly recommended!

We strongly recommend Rie to anyone! She is a very professional teacher, my boy Anson has learned a lot of useful and practical piano skills from her! Rie is preparing him to take ABRSM Grade 6 Piano exam and he finds her lessons fun and engaging! We are really lucky to have such a good teacher!

I've been having adult lessons with Rie for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. I have tried other teachers in Hove who I found were rude, arrogant and expected you to learn on a cheap flimsy £150 keyboard.
Rie is not only super talented, kind and gentle with her approach, she also has a proper grand piano in her studio that sounds beautiful. This means you get to learn on a proper instrument and makes lessons really fun. I never feel silly for making mistakes, while some teachers in the area I found to be incredibly patronising (maybe this works with children?).
I would highly recommend Rie for lessons, whatever your skill level. I feel empowered knowing I have her to support me on my piano journey.
